A Hawke's Bay local wasn't letting a bit of Cyclone-Gabrielle-debris stop him from delivering the essentials to his mate.
As reported by NZ Herald, Hawke's Bay resident Sam Parsons went against warning protocol and walked over the Esk river across a debris-covered rail bridge, to deliver a crate of cold ones to his mate on the other side.
"He likes a beer, and I thought he could probably use one," Parsons said. Too right.
Sam said he understood the bridge wasn't considered safe to cross, and doesn't recommend it, but "sometimes you have got to take a risk, especially to help those on the other side."
That man deserves a DB.
Hastings District Council has warned that the bridge is unsafe for pedestrian travel, and there is currently no estimated date for when it will be safe to cross again.
