Harrison meets Bruno Mars in New York City!

HEY it’s Harrison - live and back in NZ. As you all may know and have seen, I’ve been on a little trip to The Big Apple for a NOT-so-little secret. 

I’m so gassed to reveal I was at Met Life Stadium in New York (alongside 82,499 other people) watching THE Bruno Mars on ‘The Romantic Tour’... and yes, I think my life peaked that night. 

You may be thinking, “there’s no way anything else on that trip could’ve topped seeing Bruno live,” (and you’d be right), HOWEVER, I also got the unreal opportunity to sit down with Bruno HIMSELF to chat about the show, and of course… his upcoming visit to NZ!!! 

We got stuck into Bruno’s musical influences, his thoughts on live performances in a world rapidly growing with AI, his most ‘un-sexy’ attribute (not possible!) and why I could be the next ‘Hooligan’?!!

As for the show, it opened with Anderson Pak’s DJ set under his alias ‘DJ PEE WEE’. Then Raye came on (cried the whole time obviously, it was INCREDIBLE!!). 

Once she wrapped, the lights dimmed, I heard the opening trumpets of “Risk it All’ begin, and a silhouette of THE sexiest man alive appeared.

Let me tell you, this man’s vocals hit from beginning to end. His energy gets into your veins - to sit down at that concert is seriously an impossible feat.

Every few songs, he addressed the ‘Bruno’s angel cam’, where he would single out someone in the crowd to feed off of. The girls on that cam gave EVERYTHING. The sexual tension was out the gate… I’d give everything up to be a Bruno angel. 

The one thing that makes Bruno the performer he is, is his band, ‘The Hooligans’. The guys have been with Bruno since day one - a true mix of family and childhood friends. All with an instrument each, they dance just as much as he does. It. Was. Insane.

Bruno closed the night with ‘Uptown Funk’ and him getting fire extinguished by the local fire department for being ‘too hot’. We then got an encore song of ‘Dance With Me’ - a truly romantic ballad to bookend a seriously sexy show.

The best thing about the show was that it didn’t rely on sets or lights to make it feel extraordinary. Sure, it looked cool and yes the fireworks were fun, but it’s Bruno and The Hooligans that really make it.

You can not take your eyes of those performers, for every lyric and step they make is pure magic.

It was two and a half hours of my life I’d like to live every day. 

Another big highlight was watching it next to Hillary Barry, who blushed and went ‘oooo’ whenever Bruno thrusted, (he thrusted a minimum of 100 times - she was in heaven… and so was I). 

I saw him in 2018 at Spark Arena and thought I would never see a concert as good. And then I saw this show. 

Save your money IMMEDIATELY because if you miss Bruno when he comes to New Zealand, you will genuinely miss out on the best concert of your life.
