Harris Dickinson is impressed by how far he and his co-stars have come with their musical preparation for the upcoming Beatles movie project.
The ‘Babygirl’ star will play John Lennon in Sam Mendes's ambitious four-film project alongside Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
Although he wasn't confirmed for the part until April, Dickinson revealed on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast that he has actually been working on the "music stuff" for almost a year.
While he initially doubted how he'd pull off playing Lennon, the leading actors have worked so hard in music rehearsals that they're now able to play together, as if they were a real band.
"It's funny, I don't want to say too much, but you go into a process like this and you think, 'I'm never going to be able to do this.' And then you look back and eight months have gone by and you're all miraculously doing it," he shared.
"It's the power of repetition and (putting in the) hours and what people holding you accountable... It's a real motivator.
"They've got the most incredible music team that are just really putting us through our paces and ensuring we're really getting up to speed musically."
Dickinson explained that when director Sam Mendes approached him in the middle of last year, he did not expect him to suggest playing a member of the Fab Four, joking, "Honestly, I thought he was going to ask me to audition for, I don't know, like a sound engineer or something. I never expected him to say John Lennon."
The British actor admitted that he experienced "fear and doubt and insecurity" about whether he was the right actor for the role, but his concerns were "very quickly eradicated" by the prospect of working with Mendes and Mescal, who was the only co-star attached at the time.
‘The Beatles - A Four-Film Cinematic Event’ will be released in movie theatres in April 2028, with each film focusing on a different member of the iconic band.
