Halsey has dropped an absolute bombshell claim about their record label holding their new music hostage.
In a series of Tik Toks, @halsey, who goes by she/they pronouns, has insisted they "deserve better" - and reckons this is happening to other artists, too.
In the first clip, Halsey states: "basically I have a song that I love that I wanna release ASAP – but my record label won't let me."
"I've been in this industry for 8 years, and I've sold over 165 million records."
Halsey's says their label, Astralwerks-Capitol, won't let them release their single unless they can fake a viral moment on Tik Tok.
FAKE?!?
A rep from Astralwerks-Capitol dodged the claim in a statement to Variety saying: "Our belief in Halsey as a singular and important artist is total and unwavering. We can't wait for the world to hear their brilliant new music."
Either way, Halsey is pissed that the music industry seems to be valuing TikTok views over new releases, and says, "this is happening to basically every artist these days".
Oh btw, if you thought this was one big viral prank – It's not!
Well... not according to Halsey.
They followed up with a second video posted to TikTok saying: "I wish I was kidding lol."
The second video seems to show Halsey secretly recording a conversation between her and her manager discussing the marketing plan.
When asked by a fan:"What counts as viral tho?" Halsey responded with "It's like if it doesn't get a certain amount of views or likes or w.e. they will just keep making me make videos and push it back until they're happy."
She followed it up with: "I never said I wasn't gonna go viral! I am! Just not the way that they wanted me to lmao."
Honestly, it's a kickass move and we are here for it!
