Halsey has landed her first lead acting role in the upcoming horror movie Replacer.

After making appearances in films such as Americana and MaXXXine, the Without Me singer is taking acting to the next level with her first starring role in the psychosexual horror.

Halsey, real name Ashley Frangipane, also wrote the script with her actor fiancé Avan Jogia, who will direct the project. Lilly Wachowski, best known for The Matrix franchise, will serve as an executive producer.

According to Deadline, the synopsis reads, "Stranded in Montreal, Proxy (Halsey), a troubled DJ, meets an alluring artist and his group of friends who run an underground radio station. The station's broadcast becomes warped by a mysterious signal hidden deep beneath the city's subway system. Proxy must escape before the sound turns her, and her new friends, into something raw, primal, and unrecognisable."

Halsey and Jogia are currently at the Cannes Film Festival to support the launch of the project and meet with prospective buyers.

Jogia, who is best known for starring in the Nickelodeon TV series Victorious, said in a statement, "Replacer is a bright and electric club horror mashed together with a vulnerable romantic story about belonging and community. Come together. Leave as one."

The Zombieland: Double Tap star previously directed the short films Alex and Of Dogs and Men, episodes of the 2016 TV show Last Teenagers of the Apocalypse, and made his feature directorial debut in 2022 with Door Mouse.

Teasing what to expect from Replacer, Wachowski added, "Avan and Halsey's script is a surreal hyper-dive into a twitchy, conspiratorial genre mashing snarl of horror/thriller/comedy, set against the grit and grime of a rarely glimpsed Montreal subculture. This thing is packed!"

Halsey, who also appeared in A Star Is Born and had a voice role in Sing 2, shared Deadline's article on her Instagram Stories without adding a comment. She has also been documenting her time in Cannes.
