An unsuspecting grandma has gone viral after confidently walking straight into the middle of a heavy metal mosh pit - but it's what happened next that's got people talking.

During a gig for Australian metal band Cutthroat, the elderly woman made her way up to the front of the stage. She was a lady on a mission - wanting to blow a kiss to her granddaughter playing bass.

The now-viral clip, shared by Bo Grant, shows a group of women quickly forming a protective circle around the grandma as she excitedly captured the attention of her granddaughter.

According to a comment from the original punter who shared the clip, Sophie Lewis, the grandma had been watching from a distance before suddenly deciding, “Alright, I’m gonna go out there!”

The six women whipped into action real quick, immediately making sure nobody accidentally crashed into granny.

At one point, one woman can even be seen holding a man at arm's length, who hadn’t yet clocked grandma standing there.

After noticing the human shield around her, grandma thanked the women before walking to the back and letting the mosh pit return to its regular scheduled mayhem.

“I’ve never witnessed an old lady’s near-death experience, but I never would have thought it would be watching an elderly woman walk into a MOSH PIT,” Grant joked.

Heaps of people in the comments of her video are saying it perfectly sums up metal gig culture.

“Heavy metal fans are lovely people,” one commenter wrote. “The last time I entered a mosh pit, I heard someone yell ‘old man in the mosh pit!’ - not as an insult, but to warn everyone an elder was in there 😂.”

Another added: “This is awesome. I guarantee 99.9% of the crowd would’ve stopped once they realised she was there.”

“Metal ladies secret service,” someone else joked.

A fourth person added: “In all fairness, though, grandmas in the mosh pit isn’t usually something you have to look out for.”

Safe to say grandma survived the pit - but next time we wanna see her up on that stage!
