A group of women from Gloriavale Christian Community have been spotted carving up the slopes of Porters ski area in Canterbury - blue dresses and all.
A local woman told NZ Herald she was “surprised” to see the group excursion to the snow.
She said one of the men in her ski group, who lives near the West Coast community, recognised them straight away.
“It was him who told us they were from the community,” she said.
In a clip shared by the outlet shows one of the women appearing to be having a blast down the mountain.
Commenters are loving the clip, with one writing: “They look like a vibe.”
“In their dresses even 🥰,” another praised them for braving the cold in their community attire.
A third said: “Good on them, go enjoy the slopes ☺️.”
The community’s tucked away on the West Coast, a good 2-hour 20 minute drive from Porters.
So no wonder they made fun day out of it, and it was clear to see.
“It looked like the young women were having a great time on the snow, which is lovely because I think people from outside the community mostly presume their lives are pretty drab and joyless,” the woman added.
She also added their gear looked a bit retro too with long slim skis you’d have seen back in the likes of the ‘80s.
Makes it seem like a ski trip might be a regular excursion for the community group.
Despite most of them appearing to be beginner-intermediate level, one older member of the community seemed skilled enough to pull off a move the woman described to the Herald as a scene from ‘The Flying Nun’.
It’s a rare sight to see the Gloriavale members enjoying a day out from the secluded community.
