Taylor Swift 'Life of a Showgirl': George Michael's team backs 'Father Figure'

"We had no hesitation..."

Taylor Swift is incorporating a classic track from the ‘80s in her album drop tonight, and the blessing she received is just the sweetest.

‘The Life of a Showgirl’ is dropping today at 5pm in NZ, and we’re anticipating some HUGE tracks.

One that’s already been hyped up is her fourth track on the album ‘Father Figure’.

Earlier this week, keen eyes noticed that the song credits none other than George Michael who’s own song of the same name gained another round of popularity after featuring in Nicole Kidman’s film ‘Baby Girl’ in 2024.

This morning, George Michael Entertainment thanked Taylor for including George in such a “special moment”.

“We were delighted when Taylor Swift and her team approached us earlier this year about incorporating an interpolation of George Michael’s classic song ‘Father Figure’ into a brand new song of the same title to be featured on her forthcoming album,” GME wrote in a statement on Instagram.

“When we heard the track, we had no hesitation in agreeing to this association between two great artists, and we know George would have felt the same.”

“George Michael entertainment wishes Taylor every success with ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ and ‘Father Figure’,” they added.

According to TMZ, Kenny Goss - Michael’s partner of 13 years - reckons the singer would’ve been stoked to see Swift put her own spin on the track.

He added that Michael would’ve “appreciated someone of her calibre taking an interest in his work.”

The interpolation means that Taylor’s track won’t just sample a section of the original song, but include the melody of George’s hit.

Back in 1987, Michael wrote and produced ‘Father Figure’ for his debut solo album ‘Faith’.

Just a year later, the track went on to hit number one on the Billboard charts.

We can’t wait to hear the final track tonight!
