George MacKay's trousers ripped during emotional Sense and Sensibility scene

George MacKay has revealed that his trousers awkwardly ripped while filming an emotional scene in Sense and Sensibility.

In the latest film adaptation of Jane Austen's famous novel, Daisy Edgar-Jones plays Elinor Dashwood alongside MacKay as her love interest, Edward Ferrars.

During an interview with British Vogue magazine, the 1917 star revealed that one of their brooding romantic scenes was awkwardly interrupted by an ill-timed wardrobe malfunction.

"Dais and I laughed a lot on set. A lot," he recalled. "My badly timed trouser rip in a particularly emotional and romantic scene. It set a precedent for Edward's trousers to genuinely rip in scenes that were emotionally intense."

Although they had met twice before, the actors went for a walk on Hampstead Heath in London before filming began to get to know each other better. Once on set, they wrote letters to each other in character, messages that Edgar-Jones kept as souvenirs from the shoot.

"She's a wonder," MacKay praised. "Funny, smart, self-effacing, insightful and always giving."

On the flipside, Edgar-Jones didn't have to get to know Esmé Creed-Miles, who plays her on-screen sister Marianne, because they portrayed siblings in the 2018 movie Pond Life, her debut film.

"I have a deep love for her," the Normal People actor said of her co-star. "When we read together for Sense and Sensibility, it was effortless. Our chemistry is the thing I'm most proud of in the film. This really feels like a love story between sisters."

Creed-Miles added, "Daisy is as kind, clever and talented as she was 10 years ago. Our arcs felt so rich and intentional as a result of how she approached scenes. Acting with her didn't feel like acting, because she really is my sister."

Sense and Sensibility will be released in U.K. cinemas on 25 September.
