A group of four young female poets from Papakura High School put together a seriously impressive poem to amp us up for the Women's Rugby World Cup. Umisuma (Rosaline) Petelo, Pauline Kaulave, Ilhaam Sheik Freed, and Mercy Lauesi are the talented girls that made the spine-tingling poem. The poem was used in a video for the World Cup, and you got to give it a watch.
Ano te pai! How talented are those girls?! Our very own K'Lee saw the video at a premier and had some choice words about it.
"What they have produced is truly moving and I am honoured to have been a part of their journey and to support the women's Rugby World Cup kaupapa," she said.
Michelle Hooper, the Rugby World Cup 2021 Tournament Director is extremely proud of the girls and ecstatic with the poem.
"We are delighted with what has been created, the video will inspire all who watch it, to show their support for our wahine competing in the Rugby World Cup 2021 and those playing rugby in every corner of the world, this is for you," she finished.
The tournament kicks off on November 8th with a triple header at Eden Park. South Africa will play France, then Fiji plays England before our very own Black Ferns take on the old foe Australia to end the night. Organisers are hoping for a sell-out at this opening day, and we think that would be awesome. Get behind your defending champion Black Ferns and buy tickets at www.rugbyworldcup.com/2021.
