Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been hit with upgraded charges after allegedly running over his former bandmate’s father, and it could now land him in prison for life.

In case you missed it, the charges relate to a March 29 incident involving Turnstile lead singer Brendan Yates’ 79-year-old dad, William, who police say was intentionally struck by a vehicle after a dispute outside his home.

According to investigators, Ebert allegedly showed up yelling abuse and blasting his horn, left, then came back and hit William in the driveway. The impact left him with “severe trauma to both of his legs.”

Ebert, 33, was indicted on May 1st, with attempted first-degree murder added to the list, a big jump from the original second-degree charge that carried up to 30 years.

The band didn’t mince words in a statement to Rolling Stone after the incident.

“We are grateful that Mr. Yates survived, has successfully undergone surgery, and we’re hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery. We have no language left for Brady. Please respect our privacy in this time.”

They also revealed they cut ties with Ebert back in 2022 after what they called a “consistent pattern of harmful behavior” and escalating threats.

Turnstile Statement

Ebert, meanwhile, is claiming self-defence and reckons surveillance footage will clear him. “This is pure self-defense… They’re the attackers,” he said.

He’s currently being held without bail and is due back in court on Thursday, May 8.

Bloody hectic stuff.
