Watch: Foo Fighters turn Tiny Desk into a full-blown rock gig

Six musicians perform in a cluttered office with a desk full of items, featuring a lead singer on a blue guitar, a drummer, a keyboardist, and three other guitarists.

Foo Fighters rolled into NPR’s Tiny Desk and somehow made a cramped office feel like a sold-out stadium show.

The band spent weeks planning for the performance, even taping out the exact dimensions of the famous desk in a rehearsal space to figure out how they’d all cram in there with guitars, drums and about 400 years of collective rock energy.

But those plans were quickly thrown out the window.

"If you put instruments in our hands and there are people," Grohl joked, "it's fun to play!"

Nobody in Foo Fighters knows how to half-play a song.

Grohl was bashing away like he was headlining Wembley instead of standing three metres from a photocopier, while Pat Smear spent the entire set grinning like the happiest bloke alive.

They opened with a ripping version of “Spit Shine” from their new album ‘Your Favorite Toy’, before launching into “Learn to Fly”, which had the whole room looking like they wanted to start a circle pit between the office chairs.

Things slowed down for the more introspective “Child Actor”, before “My Hero” and “Everlong” closed the set with full goosebumps territory.

Grohl called it “an honour” to be there on Tiny Desk. He detailed how he has seen so many of these Tiny Desks, and how exciting it is to be there.

The video has already jumped up to 1.3 million views, with the comments loving the appearance.

Some had jokes, “always good to discover up and coming bands on NPR, I think these guys could go somewhere.”

Someone else jumped on that bandwagon as well: “I hope this little band goes big!”

“30 years later and thousands of listens later, I still never get sick of Everlong,” was another token of appreciation.

“Dave Grohl plays Tiny Desk the same way he plays Wembley Stadium or Lollapalooza,” is what sums it up perfectly.

Enjoy the watch.
