Foo Fighters have dropped a new song, ‘Asking For A Friend,’ and announced a North American tour with Queens of the Stone Age.

The new song was released this morning (October 24), alongside a lengthy statement from Dave Grohl.

“Since our return to the stage in San Luis Obispo five weeks ago,” Grohl began, “we have been reminded of why we love and are forever devoted to doing this Foo Fighters thing.”

He went on to describe how the band, now 30 years into their career, have been reconnecting with their songs, each other, and the fans who have stuck by them through everything.

“From reuniting as a band and staring at a list of 30 years’ worth of songs to brush off, to reimagining versions with the incredible blessing of the one and only Ilan Rubin behind the drums, to reconnecting with our amazing fans and blasting them with everything we’ve got (no matter the size of the venue), because we would not be here without them, we have the most solid core,” he wrote.

Speaking about the new song, Grohl described it as a song for “those who have waited patiently in the cold, relying on hope and faith for their horizon to appear. Searching for ‘proof’ when hanging by a wish until the sun shines again.”

Early feedback shows fans are loving the track, with plenty in the comments pointing out that it sounds like their old sound.

“‘Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace" vibes,” wrote one fan.

Another wrote, “Ahh that old Foo Fighters sound 🤘”

Just a couple hours before dropping the new track, the band announced their Take Cover 2026 Tour alongside Queens of the Stone Age, and dropped a string of North American dates. (Surely they’ll announce more dates soon…?)

In Grohl’s statement, he reflected on his long friendship with QOTSA’s Josh Homme.

Grohl recalled first seeing Homme’s former band, Kyuss, in Seattle back in 1992: “The band were friends of a friend, and before long their album Blues for the Red Sun became the soundtrack to that summer.”

Fast forward three decades, and Grohl described their bond as something that has only grown deeper. “33 years later and with many miles behind us, I have shared some of my life’s most rewarding musical moments with my dear friend, Josh. A lifelong bond that goes far beyond the sound we’ve made together.”

And now, that connection continues. “So it is with great happiness that we can share this next chapter together with his almighty Queens of the Stone Age,” Grohl announced.

Joining the Foos and Queens of the Stone Age on their tour is American punk/ indie band Mannequin Pussy, and hardcore punk band Gouge Away. We’ll sit tight to see if any other tour dates will be announced.
