Foo Fighters have reportedly found their new drummer… Nine Inch Nails drummer Ilan Rubin is rumoured to be joining the band, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.
Rubin has been Nine Inch Nails’ touring drummer since 2009 and became the youngest-ever Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee at 32 years old when the band was honoured in 2020. He’s also known for his work with Angels & Airwaves, Paramore, and Danny Elfman.
The report comes just over two months after Foo Fighters parted ways with Josh Freese, who joined the band in 2023 following the tragic death of Taylor Hawkins.
In a true wife-swap situation, Freese will reportedly step in for Rubin as Nine Inch Nails’ touring drummer, for their upcoming Peel It Back tour. The band just shared a photo of Freese to their official social media pages alongside the caption ‘Let’s fucking go,’ seemingly confirming the news. Variety has also confirmed this.
Freese jumped onboard as Nine Inch Nails’ permanent drummer back in 2005 and stayed with the band til 2008. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rubin was originally set for NIN’s Peel It Back tour, but informed frontman Trent Reznor that he’d accepted a job with another band.
The news of Rubin joining Foo Fighters hasn't been officially confirmed by the Foos, and if the reports are true, it’s unclear if he’ll be joining the band full-time or as a touring member.
Foo Fighters are set to play six dates later this year, including the F1 Singapore Grand Prix this October, and Mexico in November.
