Fatboy Slim gives out some quality advice to young artists trying to make it

We'd like to 'Praise You' for this advice mate.

Norman Cook, AKA Fatboy Slim, shot to fame during the '90s as an English musician, DJ, and record producer.

In the years prior, Cook had found moderate success in the music industry across multiple bands and DJ groups, including indie rock band The Housemartins.

WellBeings host Dominic Bowden asked the "Praise You" hitmaker if he could recall the moment he felt like he had truly made it - leading to some sage advice for other aspiring creatives looking to find their own groove.

"It happened with The Housemartins," said Cook.

"We'd grown up watching Top of the Pops. And one day, we found ourselves on Top of the Pops. We were like, 'Oh my God, this is it.' But to be honest, even then, I was always trying.

"I was being really competitive. And with every other person who worked in this business, I was always watching what they did and trying to learn from them or steal ideas from them. I still felt like I was scrapping around trying to do it.

"It wasn't really until I was Fatboy Slim."

Cook said that once he became a solo act and no longer had to try to shape or work with other people's visions, he had more fun with what he was doing.

"You take your foot off the gas, you start having fun, you start messing about, you start not doing what you're told necessarily, not taking every gig or not listening to other people's advice. Then it suddenly becomes A - very effortless and B - way more successful."

He said he likened it to surfing (though noted he doesn't actually surf) like catching small waves and paddling as hard as you can at the start, then all of a sudden, a big wave comes, and you just have to ride it and stay above it and it will take you all the way.
