Fatal Blockhouse Bay Stabbing

A homicide investigation is underway in Auckland after a man died from a stab wound sustained during a violent altercation in Blockhouse Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Police have launched Operation Falconer to piece together the events of 22 August. According to Acting Detective Inspector Craig Bolton of the Auckland City CIB, the violent confrontation occurred at around 3:40 pm on Holbrook Street, near the intersection of Shoreham Street.

During the fight, the victim suffered a critical stab wound. He then got into a vehicle with associates and was driven away to a nearby bus stop on Blockhouse Bay Road, where emergency services were called.

The man was rushed to Auckland City Hospital in critical condition, where he underwent emergency surgery and was placed in intensive care. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries on the evening of 23 August.

Police have carried out detailed scene examinations on both Holbrook Street and at the Blockhouse Bay Road bus stop.

Investigators are urgently appealing to the public for help.

"I'm asking anyone who was in the area at the time and has information, to come forward," says Acting Detective Inspector Bolton. "If you have dashcam footage, CCTV footage or saw anything – we need to hear from you."

At this stage, the Coroner’s Office has granted interim non-public orders under section 74 of the Coroners Act, meaning the victim's name and identifying details cannot be published.

Police state they are in a sensitive phase of the investigation and are actively working to identify all individuals present and responsible. Anyone with information or footage is urged to contact Police immediately. (Photo - NZ Police)
