Fans shocked as Johnny Depp to return as Jack Sparrow for 'Pirates of the Caribbean' franchise

He's back!

Johnny Depp will be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise.

Disney got rid of Depp back in 2018, saying they wanted "new energy" for the film series. However, a source told The Sun that Depp will be making a comeback.

"Johnny is set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow and is scheduled to start filming at the beginning of February at a top-secret location in the UK," they said.

"Everything is in the early stages and there is still no director attached to the project, which is being called 'A Day At The Sea'. The whole project is shrouded in secrecy and Disney want to keep everything under wraps as best they can," they added.

The news comes after Depp was in the headlines during his controversial defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Depp was even asked about returning to the role during the trial.

Heard's lawyer Ben Rottenborn asked him: "The fact is, Mr Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?"

To which Depp replied: "That is true, Mr Rottenborn."
