Fabian Holland out for entire Super Rugby season - report

A male rugby player wearing a dark blue Highlanders jersey with multiple sponsor logos holds a Gilbert rugby ball, fends off an opponent in a white and black jersey, and is taped on the forearms. The game takes place at night in an outdoor stadium with artificial lighting.

The Highlanders have been dealt a crushing blow just days out from their Super Rugby Pacific campaign kicking off.

Lock Fabian Holland - who enjoyed a breakout 2025 - is set to miss the entirety of this year’s Super season.

Holland dislocated his right shoulder in the Highlanders' preseason win over Moana Pasifika at the weekend, and was expected to miss the start of the southerners’ campaign.

But our newsroom understands that, following scans, Holland will now miss most if not all of the season ahead. However, the Highlanders say there is no update at this stage, with the team still awaiting the results of further testing.

He is expected to return in July, in time for international duty with the All Blacks.

Super Rugby Pacific kicks off on Friday, with the Highlanders taking on the Crusaders in Dunedin.

Holland quickly became one of New Zealand Rugby’s key assets last year, and was named World Rugby’s breakout player of the year in November.
