We love a New Zealand shout in any form, but this one might take the cake for being juicy af.

UK-based singer and producer Emily Makis has dropped a not so subtle dig at a mystery DJ in her latest track with Pola & Bryson, ‘Pretender’... And somehow Aotearoa caught a stray.

“I’m a leave you praying to a new Demon //You're the type to compromise your faith in New Zealand // You’re the type to only appreciate the new season…”

While we were initially just buzzing to hear NZ name dropped, Emily has since jumped online to explain the deeper meaning behind lyric - and it’s full on.

According to her, that line is basically calling the DJ out for allegedly being unfaithful while overseas.

“U cheat on your partner in foreign countries,” Emily wrote in the video.

While the DJ she’s referring to is unknown, the lyric still hits hard and has gotten people speculating in the comments.

Unfortunately, Emily is keeping her lips sealed because she’d “probably get sued”.

Elsewhere in the video, Emily calls the mystery DJ out for allegedly “clout chasing for career growth”, having a God complex, referring to them as a “disc Jesus”.

It’s strong, it’s a powerful statement, and we’re honestly happy to be a part of it.

One commenter was fizzing, writing: “New Zealand [was] mentioned".

“Fave part of the world ever 🫶🏻,” Emily replied.

“As a Kiwi.... I'm now famous,” said another, while a third added: “NZ's on the map 🔥.”

Others praised Emily for her scathing lyrics.

“‘Thinking DJ, means disc Jesus’ is amazing,” someone said.

Another called her a “Lyrical genius”.

While the rest of the world tries to crack the case on who it's really about, we’ll be running that one NZ line back on repeat!
