Emilia Clarke has admitted that Terminator Genisys "should never have happened".
The Game of Thrones actress played the iconic Terminator character Sarah Connor alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 2015 reboot, the fifth instalment in the film franchise. The entry was widely panned by critics and took less than expected at the box office.
During an interview with Variety, Clarke candidly spoke about her box office flops, acknowledging that her forays into existing franchises haven't been particularly successful.
"Star Wars? They didn't like it. Terminator? That should never have happened," she stated. "But these were jobs I said yes to, you know what I mean?"
Clarke, who starred in the 2018 spin-off Solo: A Star Wars Story, also pointed out that her venture into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with the 2023 Disney+ series Secret Invasion wasn't well-received either.
"I don't think no one liked that show, guys. I'm sorry!" she noted with a laugh.
The British actress insisted that she didn't take those failures personally because she joined "already existing franchises", adding, "So when they don't work out, it's not personal."
However, they taught her to say no to projects more often and "wait for the right thing".
Clarke explained that she now takes on roles "for no other reason than that I would enjoy that job".
"My connection to a project ends when they say, 'Picture wrap.' Because it's not for me to decide what people will think of it," she noted.
After Terminator Genisys, Schwarzenegger returned as the title character for one final outing - 2019's Dark Fate - alongside the original Sarah Connor, Linda Hamilton. The film received mixed reviews and was a box office failure.
