Following the passing of Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson, tributes from artists everywhere have come rolling in.
Wilson, who died on Wednesday aged 82, has had an undeniable impact on the music scene. A fact that the likes of Paul McCartney and Elton John have shed light on in heartfelt posts.
McCartney enjoyed a close friendship with the late Beach Boys singer-songwriter and has been left devastated by his passing. On Thursday, the Beatles legend took to social media to express his admiration
"I loved him, and was privileged to be around his bright shining light for a little while," McCartney wrote on Instagram, before referencing one of the Beach Boys' biggest hits.
"How we will continue without Brian Wilson, 'God Only Knows'."
To accompany the message, McCartney included a carousel of images featuring Wilson, including a shot taken by his late wife, Linda McCartney.
The two artists shared a close bond over the years, and McCartney was a vocal supporter of Wilson's songwriting skills.
In McCartney's heartfelt tribute to his late friend, the 82-year-old icon once again praised Wilson's musical achievements.
"Brian had that mysterious sense of musical genius that made his songs so achingly special," his message began.
"The notes he heard in his head and passed to us were simple and brilliant at the same time."
Signing off, the star acknowledged Wilson for all he had done during his life.
"Thank you, Brian. - Paul," he wrote.
Rocketman Elton John also shared a heartfelt tribute to the late “musical genius”.
Following the sad news, he took to Instagram to post a throwback photo of himself in a recording studio with the Good Vibrations hitmaker.
"Brian Wilson was always so kind to me from the day I met him. He sang 'Someone Saved My Life Tonight' at a tribute concert in 2003, and it was an extraordinary moment for me. I played on his solo records, he sang on my album, The Union, and even performed for my AIDS Foundation," he wrote in the caption.
"I grew to love him as a person, and for me, he was the biggest influence on my songwriting ever; he was a musical genius and revolutionary. He changed the goalposts when it came to writing songs and shaped music forever. A true giant."
Since his death, many more musicians have shared memories and messages to honour Wilson.
The Beach Boys co-founder will be sorely missed, but his legacy will never be forgotten.
