Kiwi favourite Duck Island Ice Cream is officially setting up shop in another major NZ city - Christchurch.

Yeah, it’s about time.

The Hamilton-born brand has already proven popular at its Auckland and Wellington stores, and is widely known for scooping up some of the most outrageous yet mouth-watering flavours.

We’re talking Fairy Bread, Toasted Marshmallow, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough… the list goes on.

Now, Ōtautahi locals are about to get their share, with Duck Island announcing its first-ever Christchurch spot.

They’ll be scooping at the new High Street location from this Friday, October 10.

Duck Island’s operations manager, Lauren Clark, told The Press the new High Street store is a “dream store” for the team.

Since starting out in Hamilton East back in 2015, Duck Island’s grown fast over the decade - with four stores now in Auckland and two in Wellington, the Garden City marks the brand’s first-ever South Island extension.

“We’re all just so stoked to finally be properly expanding across the whole motu, not just up here in the North Island,” Clark added.

It’s an exciting time for the street, with another first store opening for popular Picton sandwich shop, Toastie Lords, cooking next door from the end of the month.

Locals couldn’t be more stoked to have some new treat options, with one commenter saying, “You actually cannot fathom how excited I am for this”, on Duck Island’s Instagram.

“Can’t believe how lucky we are,” another said.

Others are claiming to try and be the first in to get a scoop once doors open.

If you’re planning a visit on opening day, you'd better get your ducks in a row, and text the group chat.
