Dua Lipa has been sued for copyright infringement by a Florida reggae band, claiming she stole her "Levitating" from their 2017 track 'Live your life'.
In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles federal court, the members of a band called 'Artikal Sound System' claim that Lipa's "Levitating" was ripped off from the band's "Live Your Life."
Have a listen to Dua's hit, which was the Billboard no. 1 hot 100 song of 2021, below.
The band's complaint consisted of short claims of copyright infringement, with little detail about how or why Lipa allegedly 'copied' the song.
The complaint detailed the two tracks being so similar that it was "highly unlikely that 'Levitating' was created independently".
Take a listen to Artikal Sound Systems track 'Live your life' below.
Artikal Sound System is a reggae band based out of South Florida, releasing their track "Live Your Life" on their 2017 EP Smoke and Mirrors, while Lipa's' huge hit "Levitating" was released in 2020 on Lipa's second studio album Future Nostalgia.
The lawsuit against Lipa claimed that she had access to the earlier version of Artikal Sound System's "Live Your Life", meaning she had heard the song, therefore giving her the ability to copy it.
But the case does not explain exactly why the band believes the pop star heard their song.
