We've already seen a glimpse of the highly anticipated remake, but Disney has finally dropped the official trailer of 'The Little Mermaid', so get ready to be transported 'under the sea'.
The trailer shows one of Disney's most beloved films with a live-action twist.
ICYMI - It was announced back in 2022 that the role of Ariel would be played by a person of colour. Halle Bailey has taken on the incredible role of Ariel, and from the looks of this latest trailer, she's perfected the character.
Halle told Variety: "It was an inspiring and beautiful thing to hear their words of encouragement, telling me, 'You don't understand what this is doing for us, for our community, for all the little Black and brown girls who are going to see themselves in you'."
However, it's not just Halle's performance that makes this movie so highly anticipated. Directed by Rob Marshall (Marry Poppins Returns) with Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken on the soundtrack, the live-action musical does bring the 1989 animated film back to life.
'The Little Mermaid' also features the talented comedian Melissa McCarthy as the wicked Ursula, so I'll expect a few laughs throughout the film.
Edge writer, Monika Barton was lucky enough to attend the D23 event held last year, where she heard Halle speak about her role on the upcoming film.
"I'm sure all of you in here can relate to Ariel and how special she is to all of us," Halle said at the event.
"Being a little girl swimming in the pool, imagining I was a mermaid, I never imagined that would come to life like this."
'The Little Mermaid' comes out May 26, 2023.
