The dishwasher hack that finally solves the struggle of drying mugs

I was today years old...

Woman drying a mug with a tea towel.

Right, I might be a little embarrassed to admit it, but I’ve just learned there’s a foolproof way to avoid the biggest dishwasher annoyance - water pooling on top of our mugs.

It’s one of the most painful parts of unpacking the thing, and only adds to the chore of it all.

But a TikTok (shocker) has opened my eyes to the hack that is SUPER self-explanatory, but not common practice for many when it comes to doing the dishes.

No, it’s not a fancy tablet promising a streak-free shine or to be extra dry… It all starts with how you’re loading them.

Instead of flipping your cup upside down while standing straight, you want to use the handle of the mug to help balance the cup on a slight angle… obvious, right, but why are we only learning this today?

It allows for any water to glide right off, and the mug bottom to actually dry off completely before being stashed back in the cupboard or drawer.

And before you even think about commenting, “well, duh”. I’d like ot make it clear, I’m not the only one who has found this hack a real game-changer.

“You just saved my entire life,” one commenter wrote.

“I’ve been doing life ALL wrong,” said another.

Someone else added: “Me just stopping the dishwasher to reload, lol.”

Others are pointing out one huge potential flaw in the process.

“But the water jet doesn’t get in the cup, so there’s that,” one person pointed out.

Another agreed: “Turned that way, water also isn't going INTO the mugs to clean them…”

While someone else said that the layout isn’t space-efficient, asking: “Doesn’t that take up two rows?”

I guess it’s really your preference of fitting more, or finally avoiding having to grab the tea towel out every wash cycle.

My next question is, has anyone figured out the water situation with plastic container lids? Those things are the bane of my existence…
