‘Diaper of Doom’: Devilskin respond after fan took a dump at Dunedin gig

Devilskin have broken their silence after their Dunedin concert was halted by a fan defecating on the dancefloor. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about… strap in for a wild ride.

In case you missed it, Saturday night's show at the University of Otago's Union Hall came to a standstill after someone allegedly took a dump in the middle of the mosh pit. 

The smell quickly spread through the crowd, concertgoers accidentally stepped in it, and several people reportedly started vomiting before the show was paused while the mess was cleaned up.

Honestly ya can’t write this shit. Excuse the pun. 

According to Otago Daily Times, one gig-goer said, “...There was just a huge mess of s**t, just completely spread all in the mosh pit, like, all over the floor.”

They continued, “It's on people's feet. People are wearing skirts and s**t is up their legs and stuff, and then one girl went bleh - just vomited on the s**t - and then everyone else starts vomiting.”

Now, instead of pretending it never happened, Devilskin have decided to lean right into it.

Posting to social media this morning (July 28), the band unveiled the fictional "Diaper of Doom", an adult nappy supposedly made so fans "won't miss a second" of their Be Like The River 10th Anniversary Tour by needing a toilet break.

The graphic is packed with tongue-in-cheek references to the band's music, promising it's perfect for your "not-so-Sweet Release", that "no one will smell your Dirt", and encouraging fans to "Be Like The River". Just in case anyone got excited, the fine print adds: "this is not a real product, obviously."

The band captioned the post: "After some unique feedback, we've taken it upon ourselves to provide Devilskin fans with the ultimate companion for your Be Like The River 10th Anniversary Tour experience! 

“Devilskin's 'Diaper of Doom' has you covered front-to-back, start-to-finish. Catch us on tour while you can!"

The original incident has become one of the most talked-about gig stories of the week.

One concertgoer told the Otago Daily Times, "I thought it was some guy's shoe, it was so big. It was unbelievable.”"

Another described the whole thing as simply "feral", while police confirmed they identified a man following the incident but no charges were laid.

Safe to say Devilskin have found the only way to deal with one of the most cooked concert stories New Zealand's seen in a while: laugh about it.
