Supercross legend Eli Tomac just proved that winning can be a contact sport, even after you’ve crossed the finish line.

Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway was supposed to be a historic celebration as Tomac secured his eighth victory at the iconic track.

But as he went to lift the massive hardware, the trophy snapped right off its base and smacked him straight in the mouth.

The collective "OHHHHH" from the crowd and commentators said it all - it’s the kind of stuff that makes your own teeth ache.

The commentators weren't exactly subtle about the impact either, doubling down with a quick, “Uh oh, that hurt.”

The veteran took the blow like an absolute champ. He put the bike back on its base and ran offstage to fix his… situation.

Turns out, he actually broke the bottom half of one of his teeth.

“Apparently, eight wins gives you a cracked tooth,” Tomac joked after the mishap. “I’m looking like a pretty good hillbilly right now, so I’m trying not to smile.”

Despite the new gap in his grin, it was a massive night for his legacy. Tomac now sits on 57 career wins in the 450s, with over 100 wins across every AMA division combined.

With four Motocross titles and two Supercross titles already in the cabinet, he’s happy to take the hit.

He said he’s “counting his blessings” to get the win, even if it cost him a trip to the dentist.

The design brief for next year: ‘Must be capable of being lifted by a professional athlete without becoming a weapon.’
