Sir Dave Dobbyn is about to take on the Auckland Town Hall solo for the very first time.
Although he has played the legendary venue with band Th’ Dudes, this will be the first time we see him on that stage on his own, and he's got some special songs in store for fans.
“I’ve sort of dug a bit deeper into the catalogue," Sir Dave told The Breeze Auckland Breakfast Show’s Jeanette Thomas.
“It’s amazing because people come up to me all the time and say ‘do you ever play this song?’”
“This is an opportunity for those people to be satisfied by some deeper cuts,” he said.
Although he’s diving back into the archives, Sir Dave promises to still play beloved favourites like ‘Slice of Heaven’ and ‘Loyal'.
He said he even still remembers where he was when he wrote ‘Loyal’.
“We were staying in a unit in Sydney… and we had a terrace out the front.”
“I was sitting in the lounge writing 'Loyal' and I wasn’t quite sure how it was going,” he continued.
“I heard this applause happening outside somewhere, so I went onto the deck and sure enough, there’s a bunch of school kids that are on their way back home from school and are all gathered around listening intently, and they clapped.”
“So I figured I’m onto something there,” he nodded.
