Dad returns from toilet to see his son "chatting merrily" to Kate Middleton

"I say turning to the woman waiting her turn when I am stopped in my tracks"

A dad was traveling to the Commonwealth Games with his eight-year-old son when he encountered the Duchess of Cambridge who also happened to use the same public transport to get to the event.

The dad, Matthew Syed, a former Commonwealth Gold-winning table tennis player said that just a few minutes away before the train was to arrive at their destination, he went to use the bathroom and asked his son, Ted to wait for him outside.

He said that when he was inside the bathroom, he could hear a lady asking his son if he was by himself on the train. To which Ted replied, "no my dad is there" pointing to the toilet.

Matthew recalled when washing his hands, he heard the lady and his son talking about his gold medal.

"Come on Ted,' I say, 'we have to get off!' 'Oh, and thanks for keeping him company . . . " He wrote recalling when he walked back to his son.

"I say turning to the woman waiting her turn when I am stopped in my tracks. My brow furrows, my face works. "Kate?", I blurt out. There are no security guards in the vestibule; no armed guards. But here is the Duchess of Cambridge, chatting merrily with my son."

When they got off on their stop, the former sportsman asked his son if he knew who he'd been talking to. The son had no idea who she was although he said she was " really nice".

Duchess of Cambridge is such a beautiful person in and out!

Just a day before this encounter, Princess Charlotte made a special appearance at the Commonwealth Games as she joined her parents to watch some swimming events.

She also revealed that her favourite sport is gymnastics to the athletes at SportsAid.

"'Charlotte spends most of her time upside-down, doing handstands and cartwheels" Duchess of Cambridge added.
