Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most recognisable names and faces in the sporting sphere, and he has now levelled up even further.
It was reported today that he has officially reached ‘billionaire status’, an achievement that has never been done before by any footballer. His net worth is said to be around $1.4 billion USD ($2.4 billion NZD).
The Portuguese native joined the Saudi Arabian football league in 2023, where he makes, for lack of better words, a shitload of money.
Earnings in Saudi Arabia are tax-free, so he takes home a FAT check (NZ, can we have the same treatment…?)
The 40-year-old reportedly earned around $550 million USD in salary between 2002 and 2023 when he played in Europe, combined with his decade-long Nike deal, which earns him $18 million USD annually. Chuck other brand endorsements in there, and you’re looking at some seriously high figures.
His transfer from Manchester United to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr got him to around $200 million USD a year, plus a $30 million signing bonus.
Where is my 30 million for signing on a dotted line?!
What got him over the line was the contract extension he signed with the club in June, which is worth over $400 million USD. He also received a 15% stake in the club.
Doing pretty well for himself.
Ronaldo has joined elite company in being a sports billionaire. Basketballers Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James, golfer Tiger Woods, and tennis player Roger Federer are the others.
Well, Ronaldo, cheese is getting a bit expensive here, mate. Mind sharing a milly or two?
