Courteney Cox says she'd be 'cancelled' if Just Before I Go came out now

Courteney Cox has admitted that she would "totally be cancelled" if her 2014 directorial effort Just Before I Go was released today.

The Friends star's dark comedy-drama, starring Seann William Scott as a man who tries to make amends before ending his life, was poorly reviewed upon its release 12 years ago and currently holds a nine per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cox reflected on her previous feature while discussing her latest outing, Evil Genius, in an interview with IndieWire, and acknowledged the movie was "inappropriate".

"First of all, it was (made for) $2 million. It was 19 days. It was a ton of actors. The script, I thought it was funny. It was inappropriate. I'd totally be cancelled if I put that out today," she candidly pointed out.

Cox also admitted that she "didn't have the connection" with her director of photography and not "everyone was exactly right" in the cast.

"I know that was such a character piece. It was about drama and accepting people and people actually having an epiphany and turning around and it was just a different thing," she said. "The cast, I had really good cast, but not everyone was exactly right. But I didn't have the time, the money, the anything for that."

The Cougar Town star insisted she could make the movie better today by tightening up the pacing and cutting down some overlong scenes.

"If I could go back there and tighten that movie up in the editing room, turn up the sound, I can make that so much better right now if they gave me just one week, if I could even find the roll of film to do it with," she insisted.

"You make me want to go in and fix Just Before I Go. I swear that would be a good movie," she added, before joking, "(A director's cut) would be hysterical. I honestly wouldn't know where to find the movie. They probably burned it."

Evil Genius, starring David Harbour and Patricia Arquette, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) over the weekend. It's currently without a release date.
