Some sad news from one of Christchurch’s most well-known underground clubs, FLUX.
In an Instagram post, the nightclub announced: “After five unforgettable years of holding it down in the Boxed Quarter, Flux is coming to a close.”
“We’ll be sharing more next week about why - but for now, just know that we’re proud of everything this space has meant and stood for since opening right before COVID hit in 2020.”
In its short five years of operation and activity, Flux championed Otautahi’s local underground scene, building community and creating a safe and inclusive space in an ever-changing post-earthquake landscape.
The club has boasted headliners such as Alix Perez, Paige Julia, Aroha & Tali and loads more locally-based artists.
Even Rolling Stone recognised Flux’s impact on the Christchurch music scene.
George Night’s host, Beccie B, has been a regular raver, DJ and promoter of many successful events at Flux.
“Flux closing leaves a massive hole in the Ōtautahi underground,” she said. “A venue that has constantly supported and been the entry point for many young promoters, artists and DJs. Over the last five years, they have brought world-class acts to the green turf and brought a significant number of NZ artists to the forefront in the 03.”
The journey may almost be over, but at least the memories will stick around - especially moments like Alix Perez’s ‘Keep Hush’ event back in 2021.
This is, unfortunately, just the latest casualty to NZ’s nightlife post-COVID, with two Auckland spots, Everybody’s and Roxy, also closing down last year.
It’s not too late to experience Flux, though, with a big final send-off planned for Friday, August 23rd.
Thanks for the memories, Flux.
