Cher Lloyd has announced the death of her father, Darren Lloyd, at the age of 53.

The British singer revealed that he passed away on 11 April, sharing the news in an emotional post on Instagram on Wednesday.

Cher, who rose to fame on The X Factor in 2010, paid tribute to her father with a heartfelt message.

"Life will never be the same again," she wrote. "Life will never be the same again. I've never felt pain like this. My Dad, I love you. Goodnight. 10.03.73 - 11.04.26."

Alongside the tribute, the 32-year-old shared an exchange of messages between her and Darren, with her message reading, "I love you dad. More than you'll ever know."

In response, her father wrote, "I know you do. And I love you more and more each day see you tomorrow."

No cause of death has been disclosed.

The news comes six years after Cher revealed that her father had become "seriously unwell" in 2020. She explained that he had been hospitalised twice during the Covid-19 lockdown.

In a social media post at the time, the Want U Back singer opened up about her concerns for his health.

"I'm sorry I've been quiet on here - I find it difficult to share my personal life at the best of times but I feel I need to let you know what's going on," she penned. "My dad has been seriously unwell and is in hospital."

"This has been really difficult on us and my heads all over the place," Cher continued. "I wish I could see him and I wish I could be with my family to support them, especially mum."
