Alia Bhatt is caught up in the row between Samay Raina and Sunil Pal. What was supposed to be a standard promotional appearance for her highly anticipated YRF Spy Universe film, Alpha, has instead landed the Bollywood superstar smack in the middle of one of the internet's most toxic comedy beefs.

The drama unfolded following the explosive premiere of India’s Got Latent Season 2, where Alia and her co-star Sharvari appeared as special guests. However, it wasn't the movie promotion that got social media talking—it was a brief, sharp exchange involving host Samay Raina that has now triggered veteran comedian Sunil Pal into taking a public swipe at the actress.

The Jibe: "Jahaan Hai Gaaliya, Wahaan Hai Alia"

Shortly after the episode aired, a visibly disgruntled Sunil Pal took to Facebook to share a cryptic, rhyming post in Hindi:

“Jahaan hai gaaliya, wahaan hai Alia (Where there are abuses, there is Alia).”

While Pal didn't name-drop the show directly, netizens instantly decoded the post as a direct retaliatory strike against Alia for her appearance on Raina’s notoriously edgy and controversial talent hunt.

The Joke That Triggered the Backlash

Why is Sunil Pal targeting Alia? The root of the issue stems from a callback joke Samay Raina made at Pal’s expense during the premiere.

While chatting with a contestant about toothpaste brands, Raina quipped, “Give that to Sunil Pal also.” The dig was a direct reference to a viral moment from The Great Indian Kapil Show, where Raina had previously mocked Pal by asking him, “Aap brush kyun nahi karte?” (Why don't you brush your teeth?). Seated on the judge's panel, Alia Bhatt was seen laughing at the remark and even admitted that she had watched the original, infamous episode featuring the two comedians on Kapil Sharma’s show.

For Pal, Alia’s laughter was seemingly the final straw, cementing her status as an ally to his arch-nemesis.

A Timeline of the Raina-Pal Bad Blood

The bad blood between the traditional comedian and the new-age YouTube sensation is deep-rooted:

  • The Catalyst: Last year, Sunil Pal publicly slammed India’s Got Latent, calling out its explicit language and unfiltered humor, while advising Raina to learn "clean comedy" from Kapil Sharma.

  • The Clapback: Raina fired back in his stand-up special Still Alive, publicly labeling Pal as "insecure" and "frustrated."

  • The Tense Reunion: Despite the animosity, the two shared a frosty stage last month on The Great Indian Kapil Show—the very appearance that birthed the toothpaste jokes.

The King of Flipping the Script

Alia isn't the only mainstream star Raina has successfully integrated into his controversial orbit. The Season 2 premiere also sent shockwaves through the internet when Raina dropped an unexpected advertisement campaign featuring veteran actor Mukesh Khanna.

The collaboration shocked fans given that Khanna—famous for playing the iconic superhero Shaktimaan—had violently criticized Raina in April for mocking his character, even going so far as to call Raina a "Kutte ki dum" (dog's tail) on social media.

By turning fierce critics like Khanna into co-stars and pulling Bollywood A-listers like Alia Bhatt into his comedy crosshairs, Samay Raina is proving that whether you love him or hate him, you simply cannot ignore him.

Meanwhile, Alia Bhatt’s spy-thriller Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail and co-starring Sharvari, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, is scheduled for release later this year. Whether this unexpected internet drama helps or hurts the box office remains to be seen.
