BTS, Bieber and a Muppet on drums: The first EVER World Cup halftime show

The World Cup final just had its first ever halftime show and with a star-studded line up, it delivered exactly what we were hoping for.

Madonna kicked it off with her 2000 banger Music. In a full roller rink setup, she arrived on a dune buggy being driven by former Brazilian footballers Ronaldinho and Ronaldo. 

Then things took a turn. Gustavo Dudamel of the New York Philharmonic led a live orchestra through the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army. But that’s not all - they were joined by the Muppets (WHAT), with Animal (of course) going feral on the drums.

The stadium erupted as BTS took the stage. All seven of them, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jung Kook, hit the pitch in red for Dynamite, with full choreo, backed by a small army of dancers. LOVE.

Dynamite was actually their first US number one and first Grammy nomination, which was a nice nod to the host country.

Now for our absolute fav. As Ted Lasso's Jason Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt wandered out in character, they introduced Justin Bieber holding up a sign reading "BELIEB" (a gag on the show's BELIEVE sign). Bieber played an acoustic version of Everything Hallelujah, of course ending with a “World Cup Hallelujah”.

Shakira and Burna Boy followed with Dai Dai, the official tournament song you've heard before all 104 kickoffs, surrounded by dancers in yellow and Uganda's Ghetto Kids dance crew.

The show closed with a colourful performance from PS22 Chorus, a group of primary school kids from Staten Island, and Coldplay’s Chris Martin, who curated the whole thing.

Shakira, BTS and Bieber all came back out, pyro everywhere and a big message of unity. Wholesome as.

The entire show ran just 11 minutes and raised money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which is chasing $100 million US for kids' education and football access worldwide.

Oh, and the football. At the time of writing Spain have just scored in extra time! They lead 1-0 with Messi yet to make his mark.
