One of the biggest narratives - and conspiracy theories - in pop culture right now is all about Britney Spears and what’s really going on with her.

Over the past couple of weeks, headlines have been firing from all angles about Britney’s arrest for a suspected DUI in Ventura County, California.

Naturally, fans have started asking: Is Britney okay? Is she still being controlled? And is it really her running her social media accounts?

To get some clarity, 'A Little Bit Extra' host Sharyn Casey spoke to two people who know Britney well - and who she trusts - in an exclusive podcast episode now out.

Sharyn sat down with Jason Alexander, Britney’s first husband, and Sean Phillips, a friend of 20 years, to get insight into the people around her and the kind of person she really is.

Their perspectives, as it turns out, paint a very different picture than the media has been portraying across every corner of the internet.

Alexander told Sharyn he last spoke to Britney “a little over a month or so ago.”

“Every time I've spoken to her, she's been great. Obviously, we get her headlines, so no one really knows what's really going on, but I do know,” he said.

Seemingly referring to her recent DUI, he added: “It was a little strange with this most recent incident, how everyone jumped to the conservatorship idea - that it was a bad idea, that she’s been out of the conservatorship and rehab, and all these ideas that she needs help.”

He continued: “As far as I know, in my communications with her, she’s just been spending a lot of time with her sons and living her life on her own terms.”

He added that Britney’s wellbeing is clear to him, despite what the media might suggest.

“I’ve never felt any concern that her wellbeing was in harm. If I felt there was something that needed to be said, I would have voiced my opinion."

The most important thing for Britney right now is to focus on her relationship with God and herself, block out all the noise, and not be forced or coerced into any action she doesn’t feel comfortable with. She knows what’s best for her - it’s her call.

With all the chat about Britney’s social media, Jason addressed the conspiracy theories questioning whether it really is her behind her posts.

“I think it’s highly filtered, but I definitely believe it’s her. I don’t buy the conspiracy theories. I just think she’s having fun. At the end of the day, she’s told me years ago she hasn’t had a whole lot to do with what’s being posted.”

On that note, he didn’t hold back on the people behind the scenes managing her.

“I just wish maybe she would take a little more authority over the situation and not listen to whoever is consulting her. If I were her, I’d fire everybody," he said. "Cade Hudson has obviously done a horrible job of managing."

I think it’s time to clean house, regroup, and think about her future - whether that’s staying in the public eye with new people representing her or leaving Hollywood and going to live on a farm.

Sharyn suggested that Britney move to New Zealand. “We'll look after Britney. We'll keep her safe. She can come live with us amongst the sheep.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Alexander speaks on Cade’s involvement with Britney, partying and allegedly taking nude photos of her, covering explicit areas with emojis for social media.

Britney’s longtime friend Sean Phillips also spoke to Sharyn - but not without Britney’s permission first. He got the okay to speak out on her behalf.

Phillips last spoke with Britney eight days ago following her arrest for a suspected DUI.

“Life has not been fair to her,” Phillips said. “She is the sweetest person in the world, you could ask anybody who's ever worked with her or been friends with her… This is the reason why I speak up for her, 'cause nobody else is, and somebody has to. It's gotta be me.”

“The media is not even the worst part. It's the internal parts of the industry. I have seen it all in the industry, and sometimes the people making money off of the artists don't care.”

He also agrees with Alexander that Britney’s conservatorship “was the wrong thing to do”.

Phillips called it “over the top, unwarranted and quite frankly, illegal.”

“She just needs to live her life and do whatever she wants to do, and spend the money that she has and go on vacations.”

He continued: “My issue is that the world needs to leave her alone, and her people need to start working as a team. She's a target. She's always a target. She's been a target for the last 10 years.”

“She doesn't deserve it. All she wants to do is give people joy and stuff. It's just one thing after another, you know, and it makes me really upset because she's a good person.”
