'NZ's a different world': British lads discover feijoa in 'unreal' taste test

One of New Zealand’s most loved fruits has just found a new fanbase… in the UK.
A video of exotic fruit lover Zack Wilson, cutting and sharing a feijoa with the hosts of 'JaackMaate’s Happy Hour' podcast has gone viral gaining nearly half a million views in just two days.
“I found this the other day, mate. It’s so sick,” Wilson said after trying his first feijoa.
While many Kiwis have long debated whether it's pronounced “Fee-joa” or “Fa-joa”, these lads have entered a whole new questionable option into the chat.
Never in my life have I heard someone call it a “Fay-joa” - but we’ll cut them some slack, because their taste test comments are top-tier.
“It comes from New Zealand and is all over South America, and it’s used to fight depression,” Wilson claims.
And, while this is news to many of us, it’s true.
According to a study by European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences, “Results show that feijoa may help reduce symptoms of depression.”
“It produced dose dependent effect on both models. It seems this effect is mainly mediated by inhibition of reuptake of [brain chemicals] catecholamines."
Overall, suggesting that feijoa could be a natural source with antidepressant-like benefits.
Digging straight in after that fun new fact, Wilson said: “It tastes like a sour apple Chewit", while the others compared it to other sweets, including Haribo.
“It’s unreal, innit,” Wilson added.
“It’s a different world, [New Zealand], isn’t it?” Jaack said. “It’s an absolutely different world.”
Commenters frothed that the lads loved it, but there was one detail in the video that many couldn’t see past - how the feijoa was cut.
“Cutting it the long way was wild 😂,” one person wrote.
Another commented: “I've never seen it split in half from top to bottom, lol.”
“Don’t ever cut it like that again 😂,” added a fourth.
Someone else gave them the tip for the next time they slice into one.
“Cut them in half the other way, brothers. Eat each side like it’s a little cup. Dig the whole inside out with a teaspoon. Right through to just before you break through the skin.”
It’s the only correct way there is!
