Seventeen years on from the first time Walter White fired up a meth lab, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is back with a new show, and fans are frothing over it.
His latest project, Pluribus, has just landed on Apple TV+, and we’ve seen great reviews for the first episode across the board. Starring Better Call Saul’s Rhea Seehorn as “the most miserable person on earth” trying to save the world from happiness, the show’s first ep is already being called “the best pilot episode ever”.
It’s sitting at a tidy 8.9 on IMDb and a perfect 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Not bad at all for a first week on air.
Fans of Breaking Bad reckon there’s some easter eggs in the new show too.
Pluribus is set in Albuquerque, Seehorn’s back in the mix, and there are a few sneaky details that have sent the internet spiralling – including a familiar-looking neighbourhood and even the same fictional airline used in Breaking Bad.
But, Gilligan has chimed in on the convo and insisted this show’s a fresh start.
“People are going to say ‘why Albuquerque, that must be a hidden meaning.’ The simple boring answer to that is I love my crew and they all live in Albuquerque,” he told LADbible.
Still, he admits he’d “never say never” to returning to the Breaking Bad universe someday – just not yet.
“I wouldn’t rule out revisiting the Breaking Bad world in the future, but I also want to leave people wanting more…
“...I figured, as scary as it was to do something brand new, Pluribus felt like it was important for me personally to stretch my muscles and try something new,” he said.
For now, Pluribus is proving Gilligan doesn’t need Heisenberg to cook up a hit. You can catch it streaming now on Apple TV+.
