Brad Pitt got Tarantino's OK to share Cliff Booth script with Fincher

Brad Pitt got Quentin Tarantino's blessing to show The Adventures of Cliff Booth script to fellow director David Fincher.

The Fight Club star, who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for playing Booth in Tarantino's 2019 movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, will return as his stuntman character in the upcoming follow-up.

Tarantino wrote the script for The Adventures of Cliff Booth with the plan to direct, however, he ultimately decided he didn't want that to be his final directorial effort and Pitt thought the project was over.

The 62-year-old then thought of his friend and longtime collaborator, Fincher, with whom he'd made Seven, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and wrote to Tarantino asking if he could at least show the filmmaker the script.

"Quentin gave me his blessing," he shared in an interview with Esquire. "Finch and I were on a plane and I gave him the script, and by the time we landed he said, 'I'm doing it.'"

Pitt and Fincher began shooting the movie in California in July 2025 and wrapped in January this year, although additional photography is reportedly taking place this month.

Set eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the film follows Booth, who is now a Hollywood "studio fixer".

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star noted that the film isn't exactly a sequel and compared it to old-fashioned episodic television where you could follow characters from adventure to adventure but the episodes stood on their own.

The film, which also stars Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, will be released in cinemas on 25 November before streaming on Netflix.

Before then, Pitt can be seen in David Ayer's action-drama Heart of the Beast, which opens on 25 September.
