Brad Pitt admits he is no longer sober

Brad Pitt has admitted that he has broken his sobriety after seven years without drinking.

The Fight Club star, 62, has admitted that he has started drinking again, but insisted he is doing so in a more "restrained manner".

During a new interview with Esquire, published on Monday, Pitt explained that he has had to learn his limits since returning to alcohol.

"I was sober for seven years," he said. "And then I got back off the wagon."

The actor continued by explaining that he has been drinking in a more controlled way and has recognised when he has gone too far.

"In a more restrained manner. I got overconfident a couple times, went, Yep, nope, not good for me," he told the publication. "Not in big quantities."

During the conversation, Pitt told the interviewer that while he "can have a few" glasses of wine, he knows that he "can't have a lot".

"I have to be professional about it," he added.

The F1 actor first opened up about attending Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings in 2019, revealing that he attended his first session in 2016, shortly after his wife Angelina Jolie filed for divorce following an alleged incident on a private aeroplane.

Pitt and Jolie were declared legally single in April 2019, almost three years after they separated, and officially settled their divorce in December 2024 after a lengthy legal battle.

The former couple share six children, Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 18. Pitt is believed to be estranged from his kids, and four of them have taken steps to drop "Pitt" from their last names.

In an interview with The New York Times in 2019, the Meet Joe Black actor acknowledged that he had taken his drinking too far.

"I had taken things as far as I could take it, so I removed my drinking privilege," he said at the time.
