Bonnie Tyler fans line streets as coffin arrives in Welsh village

Hundreds of fans have lined the streets of a seaside village in Wales to bid farewell to the late singer Bonnie Tyler.

Locals and fans from around the UK took to the streets of Mumbles, near Swansea, on 15 August, to see the hearse that carried her coffin, draped in a Welsh flag.

Another crowd gathered outside the singer's former home, and left floral tributes.

The Grammy-nominated pop star, known worldwide for her 1983 chart-topping power ballad Total Eclipse of the Heart, died last month in a hospital in Portugal. She was 75.

A service to celebrate her life will take place at St Mary's Church in Swansea at midday on Monday 17 August.

Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, will then return to her hometown of Skewen, Neath Port Talbot, and is scheduled to travel through that village at around 1.20pm, before a private family service is held.

The singer earned three Grammy nods during her storied career, and in 2013 represented Britain at the Eurovision Song Contest, where she came 19th.

She was honoured as a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2022 for her services to music by Queen Elizabeth II.

Tyler is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Robert Sullivan.
