Blindspott set to bring Rock 2000 orchestra show to the South Island

The band have confirmed they are heading south with the orchestra.

Following Blindspott’s insane performance with the Philharmonic orchestra at The Rock 2000 Live, the band have now promised to bring the show to New Zealand’s South Island.

Blindspott marked a historic New Zealand first last week (Sept 26), as they headlined The Rock 2000 Live at Auckland’s Spark Arena alongside a 30 piece Philharmonic Orchestra.

They performed their iconic self-titled debut album in full, while the orchestra added a dramatic edge, truly taking Blindspott’s sound to a whole new level.

Before Blindspott and the orchestra kicked into gear, Rock Drive’s Jay and Dunc had already revved Spark Arena into full fizz - taking thousands of glorious humans through the Top 20 ceremony live on stage.

Blindspott’s Nil By Mouth landed at #3 yet again, marking the second year in a row they’ve been crowned the highest-ranking Kiwi band in the Rock 2000. Huge.

Tadpole and Grinspoon then tore through high-energy sets of their own, warming up the stage perfectly before Blindspott and the 30 piece Philharmonic orchestra unleashed their epic performance.

Speaking about the set, Blindspott said, “Words can’t describe the feeling of standing on that stage hearing our songs reimagined and watching them come alive with the power of an orchestra and then feeling the energy you gave back to us.”

Adding, “It was overwhelming in the best way.”

Now if there’s one thing most kiwis can agree on, especially those living in the south island, it’s that big shows often skip the south.

Well, Blindspott heard you loud and clear.

Taking to social media on Sunday (Sept 28), the band posted their performance of Nil By Mouth with a challenge: “If this video hits 1000 likes, we’ll take it to the South Island. Your move.”

And with that, a few days later, the band confirmed the show.

“You called for it. As solid Westies we’re true to our word - the South Island will get this show,” they wrote.

No official date or venue is locked in yet, and as the band said: “It won’t happen overnight.”

But they are promising it will happen: “Give us a few weeks to get a date. Then we’ll bring the chaos to your doorstep.”

How fkn good.

South Islanders, get ready. And you’d better scream louder than the North.
