Tahunanui Back Beach
Whether it's walking the dog or trying to land the big one, you can often find me in this part of Nelson. I love the views across the water and along the beach, it's a great space to clear my head, and I enjoy chatting with other locals out for a walk. It's also a great spot to drop a line and try for a snapper - though I've not had much luck yet.
The top of the Centre of New Zealand
I love the view from the Centre of New Zealand - the panoramic views of Nelson are unbeatable from up there. I'm not a fan of the walk up.
Courtside at the Trafalgar Centre
As the MC for the Mike Pero Nelson Giants, there's no place I love to be more than hyping the crowd as our local team take to the court. I have some incredible memories from Giants games and have got to know a lot of the players, staff and fans very well over the years.
The lookout at Kaiteriteri Beach
I'm sure this is on every local's list, but the entire Golden Bay is an incredible piece of the world and I love having it on our doorstep. The lookout is a particular favourite of mine, whether just for a look to watch the swimmers, boats, paddleboarders, and maybe a dolphin, or to take a picnic and spend an afternoon.
The Breeze Nelson studio
How could this not make the list? It's the same studio as where I started my radio career in 1993, so it goes without saying that I have some incredible memories from this room (and building, Fifeshire House). Whether with staff past or present, guests, interviewees, or anyone else I've met within these walls, this would undoubtedly be one of my top picks of places in Nelson.
