In 2022, the New Zealand Food Safety was notified of an incident where the products Bionic Plus Hogget, which is a slow-release ruminal bolus for sheep, was found to be releasing active ingredients slower than expected. There was a similar product called Bionic Plus, which also showed signs that the product may not be performing as expected.
Following the reassessment of these products, Deputy Director General of Food Safety at MPI Vincent Arbuckle explains that farmers can once again rely on these advanced boluses for efficient parasite control, ensuring animal welfare and food safety.
Arbuckle also hints at future bolus innovations aimed at methane reduction in ruminants, promising exciting developments ahead.
