The Tripathis are officially back, and Purvanchal is about to get a whole lot bigger. In a historic move for Indian entertainment, the ultra-popular Mirzapur universe is making a massive leap from the small screen to the silver screen. Mirzapur: The Movie is officially slated to hit cinemas on September 4, 2026, marking the first time a major Indian web series franchise has transitioned into a theatrical feature film.
On Wednesday afternoon, the makers sent shockwaves through the fandom by dropping intense character posters of the franchise's big three: Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi), Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal), and—much to the internet's disbelief—Munna Tripathi (Divyenndu).
The Return of Munna Bhaiya Sparks Fan Frenzy
The biggest talking point of the announcement is undoubtedly the return of Divyenndu as Munna Bhaiya. Fans will remember that the character was seemingly killed off in the explosive finale of Season 2, sitting out of the latest OTT chapters.
His new character poster features him holding a blazing fireball, heavily teasing a dramatic and potentially chaotic comeback. Commenting on the high stakes of the theatrical venture, Divyenndu previously noted it was a "massive gamble" but added that he is "still hungry" for what the character has to offer.
Iconic First Looks and Captions
The character posters came loaded with the trademark grit and dialogue that made the Amazon Prime series a pop-culture phenomenon.
Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal): Seen in an intense avatar wielding a blazing gun. Fazal shared the poster on Instagram with a nod to his iconic Season 1 line:"Shuru majboori mein kiye the, ab maja aa raha hai. Guddu Bhaiya aa rahe hain bade parde par, taiyaar hain na?"
Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi): Delivering his signature, spine-chilling death stare. His poster was captioned with absolute authority:"Jo aaya hai, woh jaayega bhi, bas marzi Kaleen Bhaiya ki hogi. Aapka swagat karte hain bade parde par."
Star-Studded Cast and Crew
The theatrical film boasts an ensemble powerhouse cast, blending the original web series veterans with massive star power.
