A band over in the States have gone viral after winning over a crowd by cooking up hotdogs and throwing them to punters during their set recently.
They’re called Arts Fishing Club - an indie/ rock band out of Nashville - and they decided to lean hard into ‘dad rock’ vibes at a Halloween festival in Charleston. The boys took the stage wearing jorts, white socks, New Balances, and sunnies with straps.
But the ultimate dad move was firing up a BBQ and cooking some sausages throughout the whole set.
Turns out, the crowd loved it, and so did the internet.
Clips of the band’s impromptu sausage sizzle have racked up millions of views on TikTok and Instagram. Not bad for a bunch of guys who just wanted to commit to the bit.
“Legendary stage plot,” someone commented on social media.
While another commented, “He is living the life we all want.”
Frontman Christopher Kessenich said the idea came together pretty last-minute after a trip to Walmart for “peak dad gear.”
Their tour manager, Tyler, stepped up as the grill master, and can be seen in the clips bopping his head while grilling, smoking a dart, and at one point, sitting down on his lawn chair with a beer in hand, just taking it all in.
One of the local producers at the gig, Matt Zutell, said the band nailed the perfect balance - they didn’t take themselves too seriously, and the crowd loved them for it.
“When the band’s not taking themselves too seriously, people in the crowd feel more relaxed and more likely to let loose themselves. With that being said though, Arts Fishing Club still absolutely tore it up. They were awesome. Everybody was rockin' because they were rockin',” Charleston Scene reports.
At one point, Tyler managed to hurl a hotdog more than 30 metres across the crowd, landing perfectly in the hands of a guy dressed as a priest - to which the crowd erupted.
I rate this. A lot.
