Avan Jogia is "excited to watch" his fiancée and screenwriting partner Halsey in her first lead acting role in their new movie Replacer.

Earlier this month, it was announced that the Without Me singer had secured her first starring role in the psychosexual horror, which they wrote together.

Discussing the news with The Hollywood Reporter, Jogia, who will direct the project, explained that he was excited to see Halsey show off her acting capabilities after spending decades as a singer.

"I'm just excited to watch," he said. "I want actors to come in and swing on a person and on a character. And watching her be able to do that, I mean, I wrote it with the attention that in your 20s, she was busy being wildly successful in a very, very hard field. So she didn't have time to do movies like this. And so I was like, 'You should have had one of these, so let me write it.'"

The former Nickelodeon star added, "Part of loving someone is also being able to see all the different versions of them that could have been or that might yet still be."

Halsey, real name Ashley Frangipane, has previously appeared in films such as A Star Is Born, Sing 2, Americana and MaXXXine, and Replacer marks her first lead acting role.

She will play a troubled DJ called Proxy, who meets a group who run an underground radio station. When the station's broadcast becomes warped by a mysterious signal, Proxy must escape before the sound turns her "into something raw, primal, and unrecognisable".

Jogia noted that the writing process was "super easy" because he and Halsey, who have been engaged since 2024, have "a similar writing sensibility".

"One of the joys of my life is being able to live and collaborate with someone who I think is immensely talented in every medium that she's exploring. And we work really well together," he praised.

The Zombieland: Double Tap star previously directed the short films Alex and Of Dogs and Men, episodes of the 2016 TV show Last Teenagers of the Apocalypse, and made his feature directorial debut in 2022 with Door Mouse.
