WATCH: Auckland thief goes back for seconds after stealing FIVE cheesecakes

When cravings turn criminal.

Man in blue puffer jacket caught on security footage stealing two cheesecakes from The Cheesecake Shop in Papatoetoe.

Listen, we all love a bit of dessert - some more than others - but NO ONE quite as much as an Auckland thief who went back for seconds after stealing a whole bunch of cheesecakes.

The Cheesecake Shop in Papatoetoe shared footage of the late-night heist, where the sweet-toothed thief took off with two cakes, then couldn’t resist returning for another three!

The video shows a man wearing a blue puffer jacket breaking in through the front glass door at around 11:30pm, before his sticky fingers (literally) pinched a total of five cakes from the shop fridge.

“We are always here for the community - we know some are doing it tough, and we also know our cakes aren’t just to die for, but now we realise our cakes are also worth getting a criminal record,” the store wrote on Facebook.

According to 1News, police arrived about 20 minutes after the alarm sounded, but the man had already left.

Thankfully, the shop is able to make light of the situation, saying: “Come on in to the Cheesecake Shop in Papatoetoe where clearly the cake is PRICELESS 😉.”

Others joined in on the jokes, with one commenter writing: “When those late-night sugar cravings kick in 😅.”

“Daaamn, he could’ve just made a cake instead of breaking the door down for it,” said another.

A third added: “I haven't seen anyone put in so much effort for a cake 😀 While it's terrible what he did, and I’m really sorry this happened to you, I also find it hilarious marketing-wise. He didn't take money, just cakes. You couldn't ask for a better ad 😆.”

Despite the damage to the front door, no other parts of the store were affected, and business returned to normal the following day.
