Auckland's first Smash Room has 'as per my last email' and 'ex-boyfriend' packages

For your bad days or just a bit of fun - if that’s what you’re into.

We’ve all had those days, just being one minor inconvenience away from absolutely losing it. But instead of yelling into your pillow, now you can take it out on an old TV… safely!

The Smash Room has opened what’s believed to be the first dedicated rage room in Auckland.

While there’ve been the odd pop-up smash sessions around the city, earlier this year there were reportedly no permanent locations where you could legally take out your rage on a glass bottle, old tech… you name it.

A rage room or smash room is a space where people can destroy things like electronics, furniture, and glassware using baseball bats, sledgehammers, and other tools to cause absolute chaos.

The way it works at this place is with crates of smashables - whether you’re going solo or with a mate, you can grab a crate of 20 items to smash.

It sounds like a bloody great way to relieve some stress after a breakup, or just have fun with mates to see how much damage you can do with no consequences.

My boss and I couldn't help but have a laugh at the "As per my last email" package, where you can bash up a monitor screen, printer, computer tower and a landline phone.

The 'Ex-boyfriend' package is calling for anyone who's wanted to throw a Playstation controller and consol at the wall.

There is, of course, an age limit. For safety reasons, The Smash Room is for peeps 16 or older, and any minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Smash Room are well aware of how much stuff they need to let us let it all out, so they’ve partnered up with local charity shops including City Mission to help clear unwanted donations that are damaged or unusable that would otherwise be headed straight for landfill.

“Staff have training in how to dismantle electronics in a way that allows recyclers to retrieve non-renewable resources from the internal parts,” their website says.

The Auckland location opens 4th July at Sweet Axe (axe throwing), at 5 Galatos Street.

While it’s the first Auckland location to feel the rage, there are also Wellington and Upper Hutt locations as well.

Right, now someone hand me a bat, I’m ready to have a swing!
