Following the recent devastating floods along Aotearoa's East Coast, Groovy T (Tiwana) has organised a fundraiser to support those affected.

Unfortunately, his own whanau were caught up in the chaos in Matakaoa, a community now facing a long road to recovery. Instead of sitting back, he’s bringing people together and creating a way for the dance floor to give back.

Groovy T has shared multiple Instagram posts showing the devastation and asking followers for their help towards the relief fund. The comments section quickly filled with aroha, support, and offers from artists, venues, promoters, and punters all wanting to help. Proof, once again, that when things get tough, the music community shows up.

In an Instagram post, he said:

“With the recent devastating flooding down the East Coast, our whanau need all the help possible, so I though,t why not try curate a fundraiser gig here in Auckland for the whanau back home?!”

And that’s exactly what he’s doing.

The fundraiser gig is all about kanikani, connection, and community, with 100% of proceeds going directly to organisations supporting those affected, including Manaaki Matakaoa, Te Aroha Kanarahi Trust, and the Ngatai-Cooper Whanau.

Who’s playing?

The lineup is stacked with local talent stepping up for the kaupapa:

  • Mohi

  • Groovy T

  • Gat

  • Hyan

  • Aunty El

  • Dazzle

  • Vercetti

  • Tohu

If you're in a position to donate or attend the event, get around it!
